Antonio Sabato Jr Only Eats Meat for His Health!

Actor Antonia Sabato Jr. returns to share his continued journey with the carnivore diet after several months of implementation. Having recently received blood work results, he discusses his experience with cholesterol levels hitting 219 mg/dL - a common concern that leads doctors to recommend statins, despite all other markers being excellent. Dr. Anthony Chaffee provides crucial education about why elevated LDL cholesterol on a carnivore diet is actually beneficial, explaining that cholesterol becomes problematic only when damaged by carbohydrates and sugar, not from consuming healthy animal fats.

The conversation delves into the highly addictive nature of sugar and carbohydrates, with Sabato emphasizing how even small amounts can trigger cravings that spiral back into old eating patterns. He stresses the importance of strict adherence to carnivore principles, warning against the "carnivore-ish" approach that includes fruits, honey, or other plant foods. His experience demonstrates rapid improvements in energy, sleep, and body composition, but also reveals the psychological challenges of maintaining the diet in a carb-centric food environment.

Dr. Anthony Chaffee addresses the controversial topic of fructose consumption promoted by some carnivore advocates, presenting biochemical evidence that fructose breaks down into the same harmful byproducts as alcohol in the liver. The discussion covers training performance on a carnivore diet, with Sabato reporting enhanced endurance and recovery despite consuming zero carbohydrates, supporting the concept that the body efficiently produces its own glucose through gluconeogenesis when following a proper carnivore protocol.

Key Takeaways

  • Elevated LDL cholesterol (219 mg/dL) on carnivore diet indicates healthy, undamaged cholesterol particles - only cholesterol damaged by sugar and carbohydrates poses health risks
  • Sugar and carbohydrates are highly addictive substances that trigger cravings even in small amounts, making strict carnivore adherence essential for long-term success
  • Fructose from fruits and honey breaks down into the same toxic byproducts as alcohol in the liver, causing fatty liver disease, diabetes, and heart disease regardless of its natural source
  • The body produces adequate glucose through gluconeogenesis on a carnivore diet, eliminating the need for dietary carbohydrates even during intense training
  • HDL to triglyceride ratio serves as a reliable indicator of whether LDL cholesterol particles are healthy or damaged - high HDL with low triglycerides signals beneficial cholesterol
  • Carnivore diet effects become noticeable within 7 days, including improved sleep, energy, and body composition changes that are visible to others
  • Strict meat-and-water carnivore approach proves more effective than "carnivore-ish" diets that include dairy, fruits, or other plant foods for optimal health outcomes
  • Training performance and recovery improve significantly on carnivore diet, with enhanced endurance and strength despite zero carbohydrate intake

welcome to the plant-free md podcast with dr anthony chafee where we discuss diet and nutrition and how this affects health and chronic disease and show you how you can use this to optimize your health and happiness both mentally and physically hello everyone it's uh dr anthony chafee and today i have a special guest antonia sabato jr back for a second visit and discussion antonia how are you sir i'm doing great how are you my friend i'm doing very well thank you so you've been um you've been doing carnivore now for a few months and uh you just got some blood work back down uh as well how have you been feeling i've been feeling great the blood work came out real good the doctor's concern was was the cholesterol was it two at 219 or something like that um everything else was great he was really impressed by all the other numbers i really didn't care about those numbers i just wanted to know about the cholesterol as we talked about it earlier that that's something that came up so we can maybe discuss a little bit but what do you think about the 219 that number yeah or they actually wanted to prescribe some sort of medication for um to help this you know to help the cholesterol go down i'm obviously not gonna take anything i feel great um i feel better than that than ever before um but the numbers kind of pretty much says what we thought it was gonna it was gonna happen you know uh cholesterol situation and but everything else is just outstanding you know so i couldn't i couldn't feel better as far as um everything else that goes on with with the blood work you know what i mean so the entire list was excellent yeah that's great and did they have a further breakdown of the cholesterol um so total cholesterol um was that and then they have breakdown like ldl hdl and triglycerides yeah i'm waiting to get it they're going to send it in the mail all the little details and stuff like that but i kind of went over it real quick with them and see what was going on their concern was the diet uh changing it or you know obviously the the thing that came up was he eat more vegetables i knew that was gonna happen this was gonna happen so um i kind of predicted that everything that i was going it was going to happen and it came him came back yeah you know everything was just uh right as i expected it yeah yeah and uh that's the thing you know a theory is only as good as what it's able to predict you know when we have said that this is the exactly what's going to happen and uh so good that's good um yeah so you know the thing with cholesterol you know obviously you know from from the studies i've seen from the the evidence that i've seen uh that published in literature you know cholesterol was never a marker of of heart disease and it's actually uh ldl is actually good for you you know so even if your ldl is is higher than what they would consider normal um i you know i that that's a that's an out outdated scale i think you know the big studies after 2015 have actually shown like you know you know people over the age of 60 which is you know people that that are dying from heart disease that if they have higher ldl cholesterol they're actually living longer they're healthier they're not going to nursing homes as often and they're actually having less heart attacks and strokes so it's um it's actually good for you you know dr ken berry says that you know hdl is the good cholesterol and ldl is the other good cholesterol you know so they're both good for you and they both do good things and so a um you know issue can be that you know your ldl cholesterol can be damaged by eating carbohydrates sugar drinking alcohol things like that but you're obviously not doing that you know so i'm not worried at all about that a way that you can sort of get an idea of whether or not your ldl is damaged or not is by looking at your hdl versus your triglycerides if your hdl is in the good range you know high and the triglycerides are in a good range as in low then that means that you're very likely to have the undamaged good quality beneficial ldl cholesterol some people will be a bit excused from that very rarely you know someone might have like higher triglycerides even on like a carnivore diet but then when you do a particulate study and look at the these are so many different kinds of ldl cholesterol and some are damaged from around damage that you know when you look at that you know you'll you can see uh you know whether or not you have like you know the good healthy ldl cholesterol or the stuff that's been damaged by you know sugar and and carbohydrates but you know it you can generally tell that by hdl to ldl oh sorry hdl to triglyceride uh ratio so you know take a look at that when you get that back um i'm sure it'll be completely fine so you can look at it and see what's going on as soon as i get everything to the to everything that we've done because it was pretty major but and this is a blood work that i have that i have um you know i haven't done in a while so kind of after this diet and everything to come back at these numbers um or at least the only thing that was really the concern was the number 219 it was high it's not too bad no and i would i would say it's good you know because you know as we said like ldl cholesterol is actually good for you as long as it's healthy and not being damaged but you know it gets damaged by you know eating certain things certain you know processes which you're not a part of you know so it's like that that's not that's all going to be be good i'd say so that's good and and did they you know and all the other blood work you said that that was that was excellent they were happy with everything everything was excellent there was no other concern at all of anything else or sugars or anything like that or anything else that would just kind of ring the bell nothing yeah nothing else there you go perfect man oh that's great that was it even the doctor didn't even call him himself because he was not even that concerned it was it was one of the nurses that kind of gave me this what's going on if you want to go on some medication for the cholesterol i said uh no um and um but everything else how does it look it says everything looks great everything looks like you're an athlete and you train really hard and your body's really good and all the numbers came out real real well so yeah yeah i couldn't be any happier um because pretty much what we were trying to do from the beginning so so you know and then and then i'll go again um and do another blood work down the line not too far probably three three months from now um and see where where that's at but so far it's so great yeah man well that's great yeah it's good to hear it and um and and you know the best thing is obviously you know like you're saying you're feeling good you know have you have you noticed any other changes and differences since the last time we spoke well the thing is with with this particular diet or this this regimen of just carnivore is that um you can't go back and eat anything else that you used to eat um at least for me because what happens is that your body is so addicted to sugars because we've been eating them and carbohydrates for so long and people really don't understand how damaging that is because um on a constant basis on a daily basis we eat so much more than we're supposed to especially with all the carbs that it's and the sugars that it's in any type of food on a daily basis or morning to night that if you want to stay on the carnival diet you got to stay on it and don't go back to it because your body for me at least is the tendency to really feel that need of sugar again whether you give it a little bit or a lot your body craves it and then the craving comes in um and and so the longer i stay away from eating any type of sugar the better at the moment i'm in in introduced again to it whether i'm eating some bread or eating some stuff that i haven't eaten in a while but my body's really used to it because i've been eating in my entire life since i was a little boy right living in europe carbohydrates pastas breads sugar it's in everything you know so um what i suggest to people if they want to do this is that don't go back and really stick to it because what happens is that the craving and the sugar is such an addictive thing it's worse than any drugs really because it goes into your bloodstream it goes in your your mental stability just goes it goes everywhere and your body needs it and craves it that um you don't want to go up and down where you're eating a lot of meat and then you introduce the sugar and then you go like oh i can do it once in a while or i can it's one of those things which for me i gotta stick to it and don't go back um because then it becomes even harder and you have to get back into it and clean it up again it's it's um it's a way of life right now for me so um you know having kids and having you know people in the household who eat differently than you do you don't expect everyone to go on on a on a meat diet right away especially you know young children and people go to different places and eat different things and stuff like that so it's it's mostly to do it individually and stick to it and then if people want to follow you they can try that out but sugar is a really big problem it really is um it's it's highly addictive um and there's sugar and and all kinds of um you know stuff that is man-made that isn't every type of food that we eat on a daily basis that it's just very dangerous because your body is just uh just craves it so much um so for me i've been really sticking to it um and it's been really compelling it's been really hard to do because like i mentioned you know when you have kids or you're taking them out to eat or you're not saying it's an excuse but you know we have so much food around us especially in the united states it's it's such a really unhealthy country if you look at it because restaurant business fast food chains and all the processed food is is just it's it's a mega business it's everywhere and you have all the drinks and everything that's in the drinks you know stuff so there's just all kinds of stuff that when you when you get to this point when you feel great and you're eating a really clean clean diet especially carnivore was just pretty much highly meats water that's pretty much it right um is that you don't want to go back you don't want to go back and and and attract that lifestyle and and that eating habits that you used to have because it's it's it's like an it's like an addict [Music] our body is it you know when when you fall off the wagon and you go back it's it's hard to get off and on you know but when i stay on and and i stay on on a daily basis the highly energy and just it's a different world altogether really is that's my two cents into it that once you go back uh it's it's harder to to to activate it again and back and forth it's it's it's it's difficult um plus sleeping and stuff like that just anytime you disrupt that the body being so clean and so energetic um then there's lack of sleep there's other things you know because um i see the difference i really see a difference between the two lives the two lifestyles and um and i like the clean one better yeah yeah i i mean that's certainly what you know i've i've preferred doing and you know people ask you know is it hard to do this do you miss that or whatever and and you know i i don't really because you know any sort of argument for not doing this just sort of just flies against the wall and falls down because you know i i just feel so amazing and i just i don't want to ever not feel that way you know and have back pain and joint aches and and be tired and lethargic and you know not be able to to to work the way i want to or the hours that i do um but that's just like it's not worth it to me you know it doesn't matter you know what enjoyment i get out of it i enjoy being healthy more you know it's like a you know what was that there's sort of a you know bastardized uh phrase but it's uh you know i'd you know there's nothing nothing tastes as good as being healthy feels you know [Music] yeah it's a psychological game you know because and this happens to a lot of people especially athletes you know because they they train for an event and they put in nine to 12 weeks training and they're on a really good diet and everything is specific and then after they're off or they they win their match or they move on they go back into gaining a lot of weight and i see that with a lot of athletes especially boxers and and mma fighters you know after their training camp is done and their matches over 20 pounds back on and then you got to lose that 20 pounds again it's it's just uh for me it's it's just a real pain to gain weight or to go on vacation for example and or you know things change in your lifestyle and you gain weight and you got to lose it whereas with this diet you don't really gain or lose you get to that point and you stay there and it's very comfortable so it's a psychological game it really is this this whole food thing and diet because we look at things our mind triggers something we remind ourselves how addicted that is and i'll boom all of a sudden you're drinking that or you're eating that um and there's ads and things and stuff you know it's you know the good stuff is really not promoted that well you know we should turn it around and promote stuff a lot better you know the good stuff you know and um we don't you know the market is is based on on you you know going after that you know and um and since i've tried this um lifestyle has changed dramatically and you know and there's there's all good good things are coming your way when you when you do this something like this but you're also being attacked by being reminded of all the bad stuff as well because i'm telling you the most addictive thing and the most crucial thing in our lifestyle nowadays is food sugar and and related to heart attacks and um and heart problems left and right i mean we see it every day you know people just not waking up um going to sleep and not waking up and it has to do you know we talked about it last time but your heart is such an important factor of on a daily you know on your life on your daily lives and everything that what you put in is what you put out when you get out and and i'm gonna stick on it and i'm gonna try to promote this as much as i can because people could literally live a lot longer by by going on a carnivore diet than anything else that i've tried in the past any type of diets really because the um the movement the fact that that when you go on something like this more than any other diet that i've tried in the past it's really fast like in a week i tell people like go on a carnivore diet for seven days really see what goes on in your life and it's really rapid you don't have to wait any you know really a long period of time it happens really fast the way you sleep that your energy the way you think um just everything overall happens really really fast um but then you know in time um as individuals we get lazy or you start losing a little bit of you know i can go back and eat that or i can have you know this once in a while and this it's very destructive it just it changes everything right away because your body doesn't want it um and and sticks to you know your body really does really well on good stuff for me um and you see a huge difference so i'm i'm going to keep promoting it i'm going to keep staying on and finding ways to to cope with this lifestyle and um and in a moderate way where it just keeps floating it's not too much all at once but it's just it's it keeps going and getting better because um i just feel great you know i feel great overall and now the numbers the numbers are are matching what we expected it so why not stay on it yeah yeah awesome yeah like the you know the addiction side of things is huge you know i mean carbohydrates are obviously you know uh something people have a big hook for and especially you know sugar is addictive and you know it is an addictive substance and we we use food like we use drugs and alcohol usually purely for entertainment you know we just we say oh well this is bad for me but you know i i like the experience of it so i'll do it which is sort of what we do with you know cigarettes alcohol drugs and you know this is um the thing is that you know people will go on a carnivore diet or any diet where they're eliminating out a lot of you know toxic garbage and they feel better and they lose weight and then they go back on it and then they you know you know thinking that oh now now i'm i'm better i can just eat whatever i want but you know the simple fact is it's those eating those other things that cause them to be sick and so when you eat poison you know surprisingly enough you get poisoned and so it doesn't matter how long you've been off of it it's it's going to screw you again um you know that's why you know i've had you know i've spoken out against you know the reintroduction of like fruit and honey um because you know some people may be able to to be just fine and have a bit of fruit or some honey every now and then and they're okay but a lot of people are coming to this from a food addiction side of things that have a you know an unhealthy relationship with food i most people do it's it's hard not to in in today's age and you know and then they'll they'll start eating some but then they'll eat them more and they'll eat a little more and leave a little more and then all of a sudden they're back eating you know cookies and ice cream and pizza and they've put on all the weight back and they've you know gotten really sick again and so it can be it can be a slippery slope uh for some who have that issue with uh who's that guy that's um does a lot of um carnival promotional stuff he's he's another doctor but he also incorporated honey and and pineapple and things like that yeah dr paul saladino yeah yeah what how do you feel about that because he's he talks highly about having the carnival diet but also pineapple and papaya and things like that and and honey and and milk right uh he does also goat milk raw jerry yeah yeah yeah i'm you know i've less than an issue with raw dairy i'm not a big fan of of drinking a bunch of milk you know just because there's enough lactose to spike your insulin yeah i've um [Music] you know i would just i would disagree with dr saladino on that one i think that uh you know the evidence that we have showing that fructose causes serious harm is some of the strongest evidence scientific evidence that we have in nutritional medicine you know this was this was actually shown biochemically from the biochemistry department at university of california san francisco medical school which is a top 10 medical research institution that they showed in 2009 and continued to show that biochemically fructose is broken down in your liver into the same by-products as alcohol and so you get the same damage to your body and your liver by those breakdown products you get fatty liver disease cirrhosis diabetes heart disease you know it's even implicated in cancer and alzheimer's and you know this isn't this isn't like oh we have this study that shows blah blah blah and this study shows blah blah blah we have 30 people here and 30 people there and there's this 10 percent difference or some nonsense like that you know this is this is hard science you know this is this is biochemistry they've shown how fructose breaks down in your body and it breaks down the same things as alcohol and it's been shown in very good trials with humans iso calorics so people are having the same amount of calories that you know just swapping out glucose fructose for glucose actually reverses metabolic syndrome and fatty liver disease and other markers of metabolic poor health so you know this is some of the strongest evidence that we have in in in medicine honey too right yeah honey too you know i mean you know like like soldien argues that like well in in the matrix of of the natural honey you know being in honey that the fructose is actually you know good for you well it may be that fructose is or the the honey is better than like table sugar you know or high fructose corn syrup it's basically the same stuff you know but that doesn't mean that the fructose is good for you it just means that there are more things in honey that are add a bit of benefit as opposed to just being just you know plain sugar um but there's a ton of fructose there's a ton of fructose there's more fructose in honey than high fructose corn syrup you know and you know like dr saladino was speaking with you know dr gundry from from the plant paradox uh book and [Music] doctor gunnery you know was was speaking out against fructose saying hey this this stuff's bad and um and saladin said well you know you showed me a study that shows that you know you know fruits saying all these studies these studies show these studies show these studies show these studies show fructose is bad and paula saladino said well you know well show me a study that says the fruit from the honey or sorry the fructose from fruit and honey cause the same harm as um as you know from table sugar or whatever and you know he couldn't come up with one but you know the thing is is that that's a that's a bit of a red herring you know like where's the study that shows that fruit the fructose from fruit and honey are good for you you know they don't exist you know so you know he's he's you know trying to to prove a point by having someone you know prove something that that doesn't exist right you know you don't have a study looking at that you know maybe you should maybe you could do them you know maybe he shows that that you know when eating fruit that is actually better that that fructose does something differently in your body maybe it does i really doubt it though you know it's like it's uh you know it goes into your body's fructose and it gets processed as fructose there's no evidence to suggest otherwise so you know i think that uh you know getting something from fruit is is better than getting it from a packet of sugar potentially but it doesn't mean that it's good for you and it doesn't mean that that fructose acts any different the you know where he really loses me is when he argues that you need uh fructose that you need carbohydrates because that is just demonstrably false you know i mean that's that that's actually recognized by you know various you know uh you know health you know uh international you know medical councils and things like that that that there is no such thing as an essential carbohydrate there there have been plenty of civilizations that eat no carbohydrates throughout their entire life generation after generation after generation you know where was the fruit and honey when people were coming across the bearings you know the the land bridge across the you know the bering sea you know during the ice ages where it was just it was just iced over you know like if that you needed fruit and honey you know where where were they during that time during those thousands of years we progressed over the top uh you know from russia across into north america and down through alaska and canada during an ice age you know there are no there are no fruit available there is no honey available so you know if you needed it actually needed it then then they wouldn't have made it it would never have made it so that doesn't that doesn't really you know make sense you know given what we know about uh you know human evolution and and you know where we came from and and you know just just right now you know dr saladino was having some health issues and so he attributed that to not having enough carbohydrates and that from being in long-term ketosis but he wasn't really in long-term ketosis as compared to other people the other people that have been doing a keto diet for like 20 years now you know it's been it's been a popular diet for at least 20 years and their people have been been doing this the entire time you know and and they don't have the problems that that that uh dr saladino had um and then there are long-term carnivores you know i mean i'm not even talking about like you know like the inuit and the maasai and and other native populations that you know live generationally only on on meat but you know people like myself and dr baker and charles washington and kelly hogan and all these people that have been you know carnivore for five ten fifteen years you know you know they live in society because even even the guy i've been watching the liver king who talks to me about um i mean really being on a carnivore diet and having liver and heart and testicles and all that other stuff right but he also is incorporating potatoes he's also incorporating some fruit in his diets um so he has it there so what i feel that you know with these people is that you know when you promote a carnivore diet and then you promote other things like fruit or things like that you're allowing it to be okay to eat that sugar once in a while and like we talked to for me when i'm introduced to that again where i think it's okay to eat pineapple once once in a while or you know then it becomes once in a while then it becomes every day and then it becomes oh it's okay i'm eating it and then all of a sudden you're still introduced to the sugar and what happens is you're still addicted to it you still your body needs it and if you take it away there's a calm down like if i yeah when i when i completely evaporated all the sugar and i mean everything um there's few days where you know you might have a migraine you might have maybe a little bit less energy even with the carnivore diet because you you're you're taking away all that stuff that your body was really highly addicted to it and it's mostly mental too because your brain is really highly addicted to to sugar of any kind even fruits or any type of sugar even honey um so when you incorporate that and once a while it's not really a vermont for me it's not really a true meat diet because you're still putting some stuff in it to kind of level its playing field of making it okay to have a little bit of this drug over here because it's still incorporated um so you know i want to tell people just you know if you're going to go on a carnivore diet it's got to be a carnivore diet it's got to be what it stands for with nothing else and i think if you're adding all these other little things here and there whether you're having some like i said like some pineapple here or some papaya or some mango once in a while here you're still giving sugar to your body so you really don't see the full potential of what the carnivore diet is for the carnivores diet is not supposed to be it's supposed to be just to make you 100 um really supernatural but when you have to really stick to it you can't um you can't answer i just wanted to ask you that question because they call themselves carnivore meaning you know diet freaks but they incorporate you know the milk or the goat or this or that or this that it's not really no no it's not and and you know and if that's what they want to do that's totally fine you know i mean they eat a lot of meat and that's great and that's going to provide them a lot of nutrition and and that's great um you know they're eating the potatoes eating all the other stuff but i mean you know you know as as someone who's been you know an athlete your whole life and you know you kept yourself in shape you can still get jacked and have good performance on on a standard western diet you know it just takes a lot of more work and like you say you know you you have swings when you stop training you put on 20 pounds i certainly noticed that you know if i would take them like there would be a month off on rugby uh you know generally sort of around christmas and then i'd just be back and just sort of eating you know just normal meals and and i would i would stack on like 30 pounds just in that month you know but it you know it's not all all good weight you know you're plumping up and then you have to just work and you'll burn all this stuff up and um you know so yeah i mean so so you know liver king i mean you know dude is ripped um you know the idea that he's getting that you know purely from eating liver you know i i don't think anyone really believes that you know he's pushing a product and and that's and that's what he's doing and he's very very uh successful at it it's a very good marketing he's very successful and good for him um but you know the eating the potatoes and all the other things you know i think that's purely detracting from him um and then the thing is you know when you promote something like you said it's a marketing scheme and it's you promote it right you sell it and there's money to be made a lot of money all these people are making some good money on that but the reality is to stick on something on a daily basis for the rest of your life and do it like every single day it's extremely difficult yeah i'm talking about not for money not for fame or anything for your own health because you know there's a lot of distractions on a daily basis and um you know but to find that comfortable zone where you can comfortably do that for 10 20 30 whatever the rest of your life that's the goal that i'm trying to achieve without any exceptions without any excuses because i want to be able to be comfortable on a daily basis and go this is what i'm doing i'm fine with that it's easy it's an easy diet i mean it's just meats and it's not really hard to really figure that out um but you don't want to deviate you don't want to go back and and and trying to go back in and out of it's just difficult and then sooner or l your addiction to sugar and carbs is going to take over and before you know it you have it once in a while you're going to have it every day um and and and so these people are promoting a lot of stuff and they're making a lot of money but it's not real you know to be able to also you want to be able to push your body and to train where you don't get hurt yeah you know a lot of these people are pushing a lot of weight you know like the liver king is you know he's just pushing a lot away doing it every day every day every day um for me is injuries is a big thing i don't want to get injured i don't want to you know hurt my back or anything like that especially back problems as you get older it's number one neck back things like that you know you feel great and all of a sudden you start pushing and more weight and more weight and before you know you get hurt um and i know a lot of people have been hurt really bad where you know they've lost a lot of a lot of their years because they've been over pushing and stuff like that and i push and i and i like that i like to train really hard especially in the carnivore diet which is really i have a lot of energy but at the same time i want to train right i want to train smart i don't want to injure myself where i'm off training for two weeks or three weeks or you know i just i can't move or i can't sleep you know i want to be able to get stronger to stay lean to be able to be flexible as i get older not to pack too much mass too much weight because as you get older you don't want to carry all that stuff with you um you wanna you wanna be flexible and lean and fast you know like i look at myself as a cheetah you know like fast lean have that lean um body um but but these people like i said you know they're promoting the karna and i wanted to ask you to you because you've been doing a lot longer than i have a carnival diet is a carnival diet there's no any exceptions i mean i don't know you know yeah i mean i i don't i don't think so i think yeah i think that's uh sort of the beauty of it is it's just it's very straightforward it's very black and white you eat meat you drink water and you know i focus on you know what not to eat as much as what to eat just because there is a bit of gray area people often think oh i'm doing a carnivore diet i just eat a lot more meat but in fact they're still incorporating you know plants and and even sugar artificial sweeteners sometimes so you know my hard rule is no plants no sugar nothing artificial and that goes for sauces seasonings and drinks as well so it's really just whole food meat and and water and that's certainly what i feel the best on and that eliminates out all these different things that are going to trip you up and um you know i when saladino and you know carnival really is dude's funny like i i think carnival really is a funny guy and you know he has a lot of you know really kind of like you know blog posts that are you know just very well done and funny i think he misses the mark on this one you know there are studies that will you know uh back up their their position but i don't think they're they're very strong and i don't think they're strong enough to go against the weight of evidence on the other side and when they when they started doing this and you know carver really is talking about how he got uh 40 of his calories a day from specifically orange juice um you know i that's that's uh i i sort of had to say something and i and i sort of spoke out i was on um you know dr sean baker's podcast and he sort of asked me he's like yeah you know there's anything in particular i'm talking about i'm like yeah actually this whole idea that you know people are eating fructose and and that this is somehow you know not only uh not bad for you but but beneficial um since coming out you know and saying that i had a lot of people approach me and contact me saying that they had you know listened to saladino and like oh okay i can eat some honey again or eat some sugar or some fructose again fruit and so they'd have a bit of fruit and have a bit of honey and then it was a little more a little more a little more and you know as i was saying you know then and now you know this stuff is addictive and so a little bit of sugar can turn into a lot very quickly and this is what happened so many people came out reached out to me and were saying like that's exactly what happened to me you know i started eating some fruit and then it was a lot more fruit and then it was honey and then it was cookies and then it was this and within six months they they had they were right back where they started eating the same garbage and it just just sort of opened uh you know uh i guess like it was like a gateway food to like coming into it's just a natural thing because you know most of our lives since you were little you know at least for me we've been eating a certain type of way uh so psychologically it's all the mind right you tell yourself and your mind tells you and before you know you're back on the same the same diet even though you think you're not but you are you know because you're you know you're kind of making it all right for yourself um so i i don't know i think it's when you find that that sweet spot of just eating the same thing every day um and feel great i mean why would you change it yeah yeah and you know people say you know that it's it's monotonous but first of all i don't find it monotonous i look forward to every meal you know that i eat every steak that i eat and that's you know has to do with with hunger like if you're if you're not looking forward to a steak you might want to ask yourself if you're actually even hungry and then if you're eating a steak you're like i'm not really enjoying this you know you're definitely not hungry um so by definition i'm i'm looking forward to and excited about every single damn steak that i eat so there's nothing monotonous about that and you know and what animal in the in the wild you know eating their natural diet doesn't have a monotonous diet you know they all eat you know cows you just eat grass you know that that's monotonous but it doesn't mean that it's not uh you know the right thing for them and it doesn't mean that they're not enjoying it you know i saw a video of a of a cow eating like really like dark green grass his eyes were bugged out it's just like chomping chomping chomping like these things was super super happy to be eating the same damn thing that it eats all day every day you know and uh you know so i don't i don't worry about that sort of thing i think you can psych yourself out you know psychologically as you were saying um and and you can just focus on little things that that don't really matter and don't really have you shouldn't have that much bearing in your life in your decision making and for some reason it can amplify and get bigger and though even though and even though they're feeling better and they have all these good results and their bloods are looking great uh they're just like they just keep focusing on this all but i don't have variety i'm not eating all these different things and so so what you know you're focusing on the wrong thing here yeah yeah it's just the outcome how you feel um with the carnivore diet and a stain on it there's nothing like it there's it's just nothing like it also the way you sleep the way you wake up um just everything is you're inside and out um that's a whole different level um that's why i tell people just try it for for a week or two and see it for yourself because you won't be disappointed then after that what you do with yourself it's up to you but you'll know a huge difference a huge difference um it's just it's so in front of your face it's it's incredible um and it's just you don't have to wait you don't have to really you'll see a huge difference and people will see we'll see it in you as well you walk around and go did you lose weight what's going on did you change something um because it's just so so quick it's incredible yeah um so speaking of which you know how how is your how your family and friends and and colleagues at work how are they taking this what are they what are their uh they're surprised um they're surprised because i think psychologically again they feel that you know is he going to stick to it is he really going to do this for a long period of time and i have been um they're probably more frustrated that it's actually working out so well yeah they were probably hoping that you know something was going to go wrong or you know it's you're not going to like it or whatever but and now that the blood work came back it's really good um on top of that they're like well i guess this is really working yeah well that's good yeah that that's funny you know i think some people like yeah it's funny like they they they want to be right more than they actually want people to be healthy you know they're just like they're like um like disappointed that you're not sick like why why would why would you do that you know but i guess it it makes them disappointing because they have to like think about something like oh maybe i have to do this now you know you know it's food is such a it's it's an incredible part of our lives you know it's um it could do so much damage it could do so much goodness in you it's yeah and you know such a big business too you know just selling all these products and stuff and um you know i love talking to people like yourself because it reinforces what i'm trying to do um because you ask questions and and sometimes you ask questions to your doctor you don't get the right answers you know um i did i did mention because you know when i got my blood work done it's it's a brand new doctor for me um open-minded but i i did tell him listen um before we do any work i want to tell you them that i feel great and i've been doing a unique diet to say the least and i mentioned to him that i was doing the carnivore diet he was like oh that's good it's good keep it up so that felt good i knew that he probably couldn't say certain things i don't know what what the procedures are but you know obviously he didn't call me all worried after the blood work came back and said you know listen you got to do this this and that he did man you know the office did tell me you know you gotta you know if you want to come down this cholesterol thing and take some medication or whatever like this that's i guess that's the procedure you have to do yeah well it's unfortunately it's still you know sort of part of the you know the regular uh you know canon if you just think that hey look the cholesterol is bad but it really isn't and you know i i know a lot of doctors and a lot of cardiologists you know literally world-renowned cardiologists that are so outspoken against the whole cholesterol model of heart disease and and statins in general you know as uh dr asim malhotra who i was on a debate panel with uh literally discussing exactly this with you know against uh there's three of us and three other doctors they were arguing that you know no no we got it right cholesterol is absolutely the end all be all in heart disease and we were saying like no look no it really isn't and it's just not substantiated by the evidence and then we absolutely thrash them in this in this debate uh you know a seam wrote a book called a statin you have it there i like to see it you have it video record it yeah yeah yeah yeah i can i can send you a link yeah it's through the australian college of uh nutritional environmental medicine uh acne and um yeah no it went it went well like i i argued and i did sort of expanded um you know version of that in my in my youtube talk you know the the facts about cholesterol and heart disease or sort of expand on that but you know we only had seven minutes to basically state our case and we didn't really have a good back and forth opportunity but you know so i expanded sort of those seven minutes and actually you know what what more detail into the like the studies and talking about them specifically but i just argued that look this was never a problem in the first place you know historically this was a fraud and hear the evidence for that you know this the the studies you know more recently are showing that there's an inverse correlation between cholesterol and saturated fat and heart disease and you know so it's actually protective and and a lot of other things you know and mentioned a lot of other studies as well and it just like really pissed off the other the other team because you know i just basically say like look this isn't even a debate this is a matter of record this was never a problem everything that this this entire theory is based on has been has been verifiably shown to be fraud and so there's actually no evidence to suggest in the first place that this stuff is a problem and you know and there isn't even a correlation you know the own their own studies that suggested that cholesterol cause heart disease in the first place you know actually showed that there wasn't even a correlation between increased cholesterol or increased ldl cholesterol and uh and heart disease so there's no correlation so if you know a correlation when you show a correlation that doesn't prove causation it could be it could be correlated for a number of different reasons but you know um but if you show that there's no correlation then that proves there is no causation right because you cannot have causation without having a correlation as well so you know all their own studies actually show that there's there's actually no correlation so how can there be causation right and so i just pointed out i was like so this isn't even a debate anymore this is just a matter of record this is over and they were pissed and they like they spent like half of their time uh you know just just trying to talk trash about me and then once it's like oh well you you said you're just saying this meta-analysis you know but you know you know i want you to chapter and verse and like what did this down i had it right in front of me like i ran out of time i had like literally page after page after page of exactly that and like i was going to go into it but like you know it's seven damn minutes and like so i was like i just didn't get to it so i had to sort of skip over that and um and so i was just like okay yeah and i just like held up like this and like flipped around on the on the camera and um i was just like yeah happy to buddy and um and so i uh we had a we had a chat group you know behind the scenes uh that uh you know you know people that watched the debate you know couldn't see and i just texted him i'm like yeah here you go buddy and i just took i took a picture of like two full pages of of uh uh you know my bibliography and references to like all these different studies and you know the the authors and the dates and the publication and the findings and i just like you know two pages of this stuff i sent it to him like there you go buddy you know have fun with that yeah you know and um and they were just pissed but um yeah i can send you that link for it for that um and uh you know seem you know makes makes the same you know arguments that i do you know and and he is he is a literally a world-renowned cardiologist he was physician to the queen of england you know and um you know and he's saying like look this is we've got this all wrong um and so and so many others so many others are saying this as well and um you know so it's only a matter of time i think you know because i mean the evidence is there i mean it's it's just so strong so this is going to take a long time because this is this was one of the most entrenched ideas in medicine was that cholesterol caused heart disease and there's so much behind there's so much money behind it you know pushing this over the decades that you know they've really done a good job you know stuffing that down people's throats and have them really believe it you know but uh it's only a matter of time because yeah it's it's just completely bunk well that's good to know it really is good to know so we're on the right track um let's just keep doing what we're doing and keep promoting it um i certainly will for my lifestyle and see if anybody wants to follow but yeah i'm gonna stay on it awesome man yeah yeah come back and keep talking about all the the improvements uh that's been going on and and and the other life too that i left behind you know which one is better it's important and it's like even even though you know i can go back and eat all that stuff or go back to a certain type of diet that's different than this one uh one of the pros and one of the cons and it's just just huge it really is on a daily day um there's nothing i missed from this diet at all actually it's quite the contrary um but that's something we need to talk about you know what you're giving up is just something you really given up by doing this or that but um certainly like the way i feel it's just there's no comparison at all yeah yeah and i think i think that's that's the main thing you know it's like people are feeling good they're feeling better than they ever have and and they're healthy you know by by every legitimate metric you know like cholesterol aside because i don't i just don't think that's a legitimate metric we're still looking at that you know as as if it was a problem which it isn't and you know we're looking at the wrong things you know really when it comes to that um and so uh as far as your like training is concerned you said that you're feeling better in your training what's your training program now training um i change it every day i i um i try to do at least 45 minutes on my bike from cardio uh every day at least a minimum of 45 minutes i like to wear my my sweatsuit i like to sweat a lot in my workouts um and i like to work out in hot places my garage is extremely hot i live in florida so we're looking at about 80 90 degrees in there plus the sweat suit so i drink a lot of water gallons of water and i sweat them out like if i'm going on a marathon uh and then after that um i'll do my weights which is i've always done cardiovascular weight routines so i do a lot of a lot of sets sometimes i do heavier than others a lot of pull-ups a lot of push-ups a lot of flies shoulders um a lot of um a lot of egg leg exercises using free weights but it's non-stop you know um a lot of rounds on the back um i my workouts are really extremely difficult and hard um and i give myself whether it's an hour or whatever i planned them the day before so i you know like the night before i think about what i'm gonna do um how i'm gonna do it and then i just put it into practice when i get there um sometimes i get on the bag and i do 15 rounds three minutes with one minute break so i'm just constantly punching and punching and kicking the bag and stuff like that non-stop until i'm completely worn out then i'll take a little break and then i'll go into my weights after that but um i i need to feel sore every day i need to feel worn out after the workout i need to feel that you know my eyes are pitch red you know like i'm really pushing um i i tell myself if you're going to work out you're going to do it to the point of hating it and doing it and and getting it out of the way um because for me it's not a matter of having a fun workout for me as a matter of just doing a really crucial hard workout every day to make a difference every week i got to make it some sort of improvement um and i also got to feel that i i can push every you know i'm 50 years old so i want to be able to to keep pushing and and my cardio to be at a at a level where you know i feel that i'm going always to to the next level um i've always done it for many many years and now i could even do it more because i have a lot more energy because of this diet that i'm on on the meat diet i feel that i can pull more energy out of my body um so why not just go all the way all the way but it's a constant push it's a constant push workout um i tend to believe that i work out like an athlete um [Music] you know i don't work out for going to the gym or whatever i like to that's why i build my gym here the way i want it the way i see myself doing it um with the thing with the you know all the tools that i need to make it work for me because you know i've been working on my whole life so i kind of i'm pretty good in that department so i know what works for me um and i tend to work out my entire body every day one way or another yeah yeah nice well i mean you're obviously you know working out like an athlete killing it dude like uh yeah i mean and that's the biggest thing like you're just like you say you know you just you just try to kill yourself you know and and these workouts and that's where you get the real results and you know people don't don't necessarily realize that and i've tried to express this to you know friends before that you know it's really all about just just really trying to kill yourself and i i know people that would work out more than i would and sometimes not all the time you know when i was when i was really going after it i was working out like six eight hours a day you know just going crazy but um you know just on a normal on a normal period uh you know going to the gym like they would go to the gym more than me you know and they would be there longer than me and but they had nothing close to the results that i got you know i was one of those guys that i you know i would put on extra weight i would get you know flabby and i would sort of lose muscle definition in in the off season and then i'd get back in and i would absolutely try to kill myself in training and at the gym and and so i'd get it back you know i'd feel a lot better i'd get a lot better like in a couple weeks then after like a month or so i was in i was in pretty damn good shape and that was just you know testament to how hard i pushed myself because i was i wasn't coming from a great base and then obviously when i went when a carnivore and i was playing short of rugby year round i never had an off season so i just was just getting better and better and better but you know my friends that didn't get that and and you know they talked about like oh yeah go to the gym every day i'm doing all these sorts of things and i'm literally looking at them like it doesn't look like you've been to the gym in years you know and um and they just don't get the same results and i've see and then i see them working out in the gym and they're just sort of doing you know you know 10 reps and then they put it down like oh yeah that was pretty good work but none of them are going to fail here none of them are struggling to get out their last their last couple reps and you know you're there with a partner and you have a spot like why wouldn't you go to the point that you need a spot like anytime i can get someone to spot me like i'd love it because i'll go like you know three even four extra reps past what i would do normally because i want to get the most out of that and so i'm making them sort of you know help me with the last few but i keep going and and that's how you get you know the really good results and that's how you get someone you know like yourself who is has been able to you know uh you know professionally been be in shape sort of thing you know and yeah all year long because i don't take i don't take breaks and i you know we talk about athletes because athletes are the ones to push to the limit but athletes don't work out all year long except tennis players which you know you have four grand slams all year long you're playing tennis every single day which is really unfair to tennis players because they're pushing it too much they're the only sport where you continuously play professionally all year long right you have four grand slams all year long you have tennis playing that's where they get injured a lot and a lot of people take a lot of months off to recuperate because you're just constantly burning it out um but most of the other athletes you know they have the off-season they're gaining weight they're not training i mean michael jordan was was a rare commodity the guy was working out every day even after winning the games he would go and train that's a mental thing you know like there's that's why he was the best yeah um i tend to you know i look at guys like that because they don't do it for the money they don't do it for the sport they do it because it's just as part of themselves to be the best every single day of their lives those are the athletes that i look up to that are still training nowadays uh even even when they're retired because they love the game they love to take care of themselves more than the money and the fame um because obviously you know if you get paid millions of dollars you can definitely work out for that you know it's like your training you have you have the contracts you have all this and you have to do it but they don't really love it because a lot of these athletes when they retire they're 20 30 40 pounds heavier and they never look the same ever again um so i i've always always looked up to to athletes like that train no matter what whether it's for the money or not they do it it's just who they are you know people like soccer play pele pele was one you know the best soccer player of all time you never stop playing soccer i mean the guy's just he's still playing soccer now um that's you know those are the guys that that i respect um because it's it's above the championship it's above everything else it's just they have to do it you know that's who they are you know that's why i train every day because it's just part of i made it part of myself it's my my routine um it's it's a lifestyle and and you know you go to work because you have to go to work to pay your bills you don't ask questions you just do it same thing with training i just do it i don't have to necessarily love it or hate it um just go and do it every day yeah yeah and the diet works really well with that because it's one of those diets that you just do it like we talked about earlier it's the same mentality it's part of life it's how you feel there's no questions asked just do it yeah yeah absolutely and um and i do do you feel that you're getting a lot more out of your your training you're able to do more now that you're on uh yeah a lot more a lot more um i can push more whether in the weight or the reps or just uh if if i go on a you know a 30-minute hardcore a 45-minute hardcore bike and i'm pushing it and it's it's on hard and i'm sweating i can just keep pushing and it's just it's mental it's physical the energy's there i don't need the carbs at all because i don't have any carbs um so the energy is there it's coming from somewhere it's coming from the meat so that's excellent yeah no it's overall it's uh it's it's um i feel younger stronger um better than before because on this diet so awesome yeah yeah and that is the thing you know people you know that's one of the things they think you know all you need to eat carbs or burn carbs but you really don't you make carbs you know you if you only eat meat you know and specifically don't eat any carbs you'll make blood sugar you'll make glycogen in your liver and your muscles and you'll constantly replenish your glycogen stores as well and so you know there's some people sort of play around oh well maybe i'll eat a bit of carbs to regenerate my my glycogen you're actually shooting yourself in the foot because you can stop yourself from replenishing your glycogen so you'll yeah you'll replenish some of your glycogen by eating you know a bit of carbs you know but you're stopping yourself from from replenishing it in the future so it is really is uh uh you know sort of a double-edged sword there but you don't need it you know we make carbs and so you just just test your blood sugar you know and it's going to be normal and so it's not it's not you're going to have ketones and you're going to have you know glycogen stored up so you know the idea that you need carbohydrates to get this training like you know it says who you know not the biochemistry textbook i'll tell you that you know and you know not the inuit or the maasai you know they they uh show are living examples of that and so yeah yeah you definitely don't don't need the carbs and i would argue that they actually you'll hurt you they detract from from your performance you do they do um i mean i don't see any lack of energy through the workout before and after or the night before anything like that is actually very good i mean it's it's um your body rebuilds itself on this diet very quickly and you lose the fat very quickly because you're using the fat to survive um so it's yeah it's very smooth i mean um i i only have great things to talk about this um on a daily basis i wouldn't change it ever not good so far from the last time to now it's even better yeah well and that's the thing you know it does just keep getting better you know and like as as you know as as we progress with the carnivore diet you know we've gotten all this stuff out of our system and then our body you know has a period of healing and remodeling that is really exciting you know and um you know and you'll just you'll just keep getting leaner you keep getting stronger and more muscular and just feeling better and uh so yeah it's i certainly noticed that as well and then you sort of hit hit a stable uh you know stable zone where you just feel just awesome all the time and just like everything's great you should do a documentary and just kind of follow up on a daily basis just what we eat and how the progression is and make a full-on you know just documentary on on on because they've certainly made a lot of documentaries about a lot of things a lot of other diets a lot of other things people losing weight on us but to really actually follow this diet on a daily basis to look at the numbers the blood work and all that stuff for at least a year you know just kind of go for a whole entire year and the workouts and the intensity of these workouts and all that stuff i think it would be very beneficial you never know just to showcase you don't want to hear it but maybe if you see it with your own eyes you you cannot understand what really is going on because you know i try to tell people that this is what's going on but they don't tend to believe it yes all right i guess i have to show you yeah yeah well and you're right you know documentaries uh carry a huge amount of weight and you know people really really take them to heart and they can make a big splash you know even even in the wrong direction you know like um you know what the health and and game changers which i you know i think were just just complete propaganda pieces but they were very popular and you know and they've they've convinced a lot of people you know to go vegan or at least plant-based and and really really messed up their health and uh yeah no i think i think we absolutely should get a carnivore documentary out there you know just and just showing this and then just going over all the sort of things that we we've talked about here you know cholesterol is not bad for you plants are trying to kill you yeah you know like you know fructose really in detail about you know getting two individuals like myself or you whatever and and and talk about this how has really changed your life you know how is changing your life every day how easy is to to really get on this diet you know how much does it cost to live on a carnivore diet these are just questions and then going back to the doctor and doing the blood work and showing everyone uh what really is deep down by the numbers because you know numbers don't lie you look at numbers they don't lie they just don't um and um i think we need to showcase that to the world because it's just a lot of misunderstanding miscommunication um and then the propaganda like you said which is big you know people trying to sell their products but here really you're not selling any products you're just it's just a way of life you know there's not a particular product you're selling it's just try it and see for yourself and this what happens to it so yeah no i think that would be uh awesome and like even getting like a group of people you know that are that are unwell and just and then having money like all right let's get you guys on it and you know do their bloods early on you know like 10 10 individuals you know or whatever you know five females five males different ages and have them go through a carnivore diet for like six months to a year see what would happen yeah yeah it'd be really good and uh yeah and you can even just you know talk like you know same sort of ideas you know that we've had you know done in these videos and these these um interviews we can talk to the scene we can talk about cholesterol and and uh statins and we can talk to dr you know uh seafred over at boston college about cancer and how this is this is completely misunderstood and is is a product of our diet and uh you know i talked to you know professors in in botany and horticulture and just be like yeah no no plants plants don't want you to eat them they really don't and and then talk about all these things i think that would be very powerful you know being you know having that that visual um you know outlet you know because people you know i just just the the the state of humanity it's it's in it's easier to digest and ingest to get in that form and it will reach a lot more people i mean there's plenty of books out there and there's plenty of studies there's plenty of you know podcasts and discussions going on about it first you know but uh documentaries seem to be you know especially if you get it on like netflix or something like that netflix and amazon like they end up having a you know big impact yeah so something like that talking about it and uh maybe we can do something and and see if uh your fans and everybody's into it uh and the thumbs up is is there uh let's let's look into that because i think it would be very beneficial there's nothing like that out right now uh educational like that i've i've not seen it i've not i've not seen anything like that so but it's something that i would love to check out if it was out for sure yeah i would check it out yeah yeah i think there's um uh you know they come out with like food lies and that's um that's in the works and so that's um that's something that will be it will be good um you know when that uh when that gets done um i don't know exactly i mean they're talking they've spoken to a lot of experts they've talked a lot of people you know like you know dr sean baker and uh and and several other people you know that i know um and uh and so i'm sure that'll be very very good as well but i don't know if i don't i don't know if they've come at it from from like that same perspective you know they're going about you know what we've been lied to about all these sorts of things which is you know you know a big part of it but uh yeah i think that um even even if there's something similar to food lives i mean how many how many you know vegan documentaries have there been and they've all been hugely successful and uh and you know and the more of these that they get you know the the uh you know the the the harder that message hits because people are just like wow there's so many of these things not just like a one-off thing you know one uh that was good it's not like full carnivore but uh you know vinnie uh tortoises that a documentary that was that was very well done yeah yeah and it um and it talks about you know basically that you know that's really not bad for you it's actually good and how it was vilified unfairly um so you did two of those found fat documentary one and two and then the more recent um beyond impossible and that was oh okay yeah and that was looking at like you know the food industry side of things and how you know they're they're really you know not having our best interests at heart and sort of the the industry side of things and how they're sort of manipulating uh you know things and so those are all those are all good as well but yeah yeah it's not that many and you know getting more voices out there and more uh documentaries out there i think is just really going to pave the way to uh you know getting this this mainstream let's do it let's let's awesome into that why not i'm down man yeah and uh all right well uh antonio i'm you know i'm conscious of your time i don't want to keep you all day but thank you thank you so much for coming back on it yeah oh good it was yeah it was great to see you again man and uh hopefully we can keep doing this and um you know and just then just keep tracking how you're doing and make our own little documentary series and love that figure there love that my friend thank you very much good to have you in our country and uh have a good rest of your time out here in the states and we'll talk soon we'll come back in a few months and do it again awesome man sounds good thank you [Music]
